This billboard was designed based on our installation, Freedom Constellations, which features two 170 ft tall massive banners on the side of Richmond city hall featuring local youth activists (Ta’Dreama McBride and Clyde Walker) who are fighting to end youth incarceration. For this billboard we wanted to expand on that theme while sharing their powerful voices beyond Richmond. In a historical moment where we see a resurgence of racist, tough-on-crime rhetoric that blames youth without considering root causes of crime, we need more and more megaphones that amplify youth voices, dreams, and demands, more opportunities for young people to illustrate a road map toward freedom for us all.
