On August 29, 2022,  the Apollo Historic Theater staged a one-night performance of LYRICS FROM LOCKDOWN, written and performed by Bryonn Bain, directed by Gina Belafonte and produced by For Freedoms as part of Another Justice: By Any Medium Necessary.

Lyrics From Lockdown is a groundbreaking and award-winning multimedia theater production weaving together over 40 voices, including a choirboy sentenced to Death Row at 17 years old, a Caribbean immigrant family in Brooklyn, and an unjustly jailed Harvard Law student. Based on two unbelievable true stories of wrongful incarceration, this show fuses hip hop theater, spoken word poetry, blues, calypso and comedy with a live band and video DJ to expose the unresolved contradictions of police abuse and racialized mass incarceration in America. Scholar and activist Angela Davis thrillingly calls Bain's Lyrics from Lockdown a "Tour-de-force” and legendary labor organizer Dolores Huerta remarked after seeing the production in Los Angeles, "Every person in the United States should see this show!" Harry Belafonte and Roger Lehecka serve as Executive Producers. To learn more, read here.
